Onboarding Prerequisites

Before starting the Heedify onboarding process, your organization must meet several prerequisites. Heedify integrates with Microsoft Teams Phone and Azure Communication Services, requiring specific administrator roles, tools, licenses, and phone number configurations to be in place.

Complete all items in this checklist before scheduling your onboarding session with the Heedify team.

Administrator Account

A Microsoft 365 Global Administrator account is required to:

  • Approve application permissions for Heedify enterprise applications
  • Grant admin consent for Microsoft Graph API permissions
  • Configure Teams Phone policies and settings when needed
  • Assign licenses to resource accounts

The Global Administrator must be available during the initial setup to approve consent prompts in real time.

PowerShell 7

Heedify provisioning scripts require PowerShell 7 or later. Earlier versions (Windows PowerShell 5.1) are not supported.

Installation

  1. Download PowerShell 7 from the official GitHub releases page.
  2. Run the installer for your operating system.
  3. Verify the installation:
pwsh --version

The output should show version 7.x or higher.

Microsoft Teams PowerShell Module

Install the Microsoft Teams PowerShell module to manage Teams Phone configuration:

Install-Module -Name MicrosoftTeams -Force -AllowClobber

After installation, connect to your tenant:

Connect-MicrosoftTeams

You must run PowerShell as an administrator and use the Global Administrator account to connect.

Microsoft Graph PowerShell Module

Install the Microsoft Graph PowerShell module to create enterprise applications and manage Azure AD resources:

Install-Module Microsoft.Graph -Scope CurrentUser -Force

After installation, connect to Microsoft Graph:

Connect-MgGraph -Scopes "Application.ReadWrite.All"

The Application.ReadWrite.All scope is required to create the Azure Communication Services enterprise application.

Azure Communication Services Enterprise Application

Heedify uses Azure Communication Services (ACS) for call control. Create the ACS enterprise application in your tenant using either the Azure Portal or PowerShell.

Use the Microsoft Graph PowerShell module to create the enterprise application:

  1. Create the Azure Communication Services enterprise application (service principal):
New-MgServicePrincipal -AppId "1fd5118e-2576-4f28-8961-8a9d2ed79f65"

The App ID 1fd5118e-2576-4f28-8961-8a9d2ed79f65 is the well-known application ID for Azure Communication Services Teams integration.

  1. Verify the service principal was created:
Get-MgServicePrincipal -Filter "appId eq '1fd5118e-2576-4f28-8961-8a9d2ed79f65'"

This step is required only for the Unify model. Extend model deployments use a different application registration process.

Teams Phone Resource Account Licenses

Each auto-attendant or call queue used by Heedify requires a Teams Phone Resource Account license (also known as a Microsoft Teams Phone Resource Account or Virtual User license).

Provisioning Resource Account Licenses

  1. Sign in to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center.
  2. Navigate to Billing > Your Products > and select Add more products.
  3. Search for Microsoft Teams Phone Resource Account.
  4. Purchase the required number of licenses (one per resource account).

Resource Account licenses are free but must be explicitly added to your tenant. They are not included by default.

Assigning Licenses to Resource Accounts

  1. In the Microsoft 365 Admin Center, go to Users > Active users.
  2. Select the resource account.
  3. Click Licenses and apps.
  4. Assign the Microsoft Teams Phone Resource Account license.
  5. Save your changes.

Teams Phone Numbers with Voice App Usage

Heedify requires phone numbers with Voice App usage rights to assign to auto-attendants and call queues.

Verifying Phone Number Usage Rights

  1. Open the Teams Admin Center.
  2. Navigate to Voice > Phone numbers.
  3. Locate the phone numbers intended for Heedify.
  4. Verify the Usage column shows Voice app or Voice app, User.
